Roots
Once, I wanted to be buried beside you so badly
That I began to dig my own grave
I thought that I’d crawl into the ground with you
And we would wrap our roots around each other
I didn’t realize then
That gardens don’t grow that way
The very best plants
Grow with space between them
They are able to blow in the wind and touch
But grow all by themselves
I had to take myself apart
Replant away from you
But now,
I’m growing like a weed
You’re wilting without me
And I don’t even feel bad
That I began to dig my own grave
I thought that I’d crawl into the ground with you
And we would wrap our roots around each other
I didn’t realize then
That gardens don’t grow that way
The very best plants
Grow with space between them
They are able to blow in the wind and touch
But grow all by themselves
I had to take myself apart
Replant away from you
But now,
I’m growing like a weed
You’re wilting without me
And I don’t even feel bad
